Abstract

This article has originated from an experience at a charity book fair, which itself is considered a solidary and educational action, held at the Center for Professional Education Carlos Milito – SENAC Regional Department in the State of Alagoas. It aimed to stress the importance of development of book fairs as charitable actions and strategies for the practice of reading and the formation of readers. Using methodology following a qualitative approach, on an interpretative basis, analyses of participants’ speeches were carried out, as well as bibliographical and documentary research. It  was based on authors such as Bareli and Lima (2010), Castro (2011) and Ferreira (2013), among others, emphasizing that the work contributes to the training of professionals in the field of librarianship and whoever is interested in holding charitable events to encourage the practice of reading and, consequently, the formation of readers.
